APC Changes Primary Elections Timetable

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly changed the timetable for its primary elections.

DailyTrust reports that the slight change was made known on Tuesday by a source within the party who didn’t want his name in print.
The date for the party’s governorship primary election has been moved to December 4, 2014.

The rescheduled timetable showed that the state House of Assemblies primary election will take place on December 1, 2014.

It would be recalled that the primary election for the House of Representatives and the Senate were initially scheduled for December 7, 2014, but are now expected to hold on December 7 and 8 respectively.
The source further hinted that the party’s substantive timetable has been approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated December 11, 2014, as the deadline for all political parties to submit their schedules for primaries.

It is believed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC have changed their primaries timetable in order to take advantage of each other as they tried to rustle on aggrieved members.

The amendment recently made to the APC constitution which availed defecting members the opportunity to contest for positions upon defection, automatically cede new members equal opportunities to contest positions with older ones.

However, the new changes will be making it the third time the APC is adjusting its timetable for primaries ahead the forthcoming general elections in 2015.

It would be recalled that on October 26, 2014, the APC announced some changes to its primary election timetable.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to secure victory for the party in 2015 polls, the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, recently revealed the outcome of the closed-door meeting he had with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his Ota farm in Ogun State.
