Contrary to popular belief that the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is just for the picking by General Muhammadu Buhari, an opinion piece written by Segun Olanipekun, a renowned political analyst, has given reasons why such notion could be far from the truth.
According to Olanipekun, the notion of invincibility of Buhari at the
forthcoming APC primary election is not only politically self-serving
but ignores the dynamics of the Nigerian political vortex along with its
dexterously enlightened practitioners.
While examining three critical factors that may eventually determine who gets the APC presidential nomination later this month, Olanipekun stated that the loyalists of the former Head of State should brace up for an outcome that may not be pleasant, a likelihood that their principal, Buhari, may be on the verge of defeat at the primary.
He quickly added that this might not be because Buhari is not loved by party members or that the APC leadership is wont to betray or dump him.
Olanipekun believes the three critical factors that would most likely work against Buhari are:
– inability to raise enough campaign fund.
– lack of the intense interactive and personal cultivation of relationship between Buhari and the delegates to the convention and
– lack of a well-articulated policy document on how to identify and proffer solutions to Nigeria’s myriad problems.
