According to CNN, in reaction to the harassment, around 1,000 of women took to the streets of the Kenyan capital on November 17 to send a message to men: Stop attacking women because of the way they dress.
The protesters insisted that they had the right to choose the kind of clothing they want without being assaulted.
Some were holding the placards, which read: “My dress, my choice”, while others put on the mini-skirts identical to that one worn by the harassed woman.
ABC News adds that some men also took part in the social protest. A male artist and activist Boniface Mwangi, who donned a dress for the march, said:
“I think the reason this sparked such outrage is it was so graphic and everyone who watched it felt violated. It could have been my wife, my daughter, my mother.”
