Chibok Recapture: What Is There To Celebrate? – Oyegun

John Oyegun, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said it was a disgrace for the Nigerian authorities to celebrate the recapture of Chibok, Borno State.

It would be recalled that November 16 it was reported that the military regained control over Chibok, seized last week by Boko Haram insurgents.
According to Premium Times, Oyegun lamented that insurgents failed to protect the town.
“Boko Haram drove you out of Chibok, and you manage to reinforce and come back to retake it and you are celebrating? What is there to celebrate?”

It is worth mentioning that Borno State is currently under emergency rule. It has been recently made known that the Federal Government decided to extend the period of heavy military presence in the 3 states. The move triggered controversial reactions, with many saying that military failed to enable the residents’ safety.

Speaking further, Oyegun also noted that any APC presidential aspirant should be ready for serious responsibility if one emerged the party flag bearer for the 2015 elections.
Regarding the current situation, Oyegun characterized Nigeria as the country that is “seriously in need of redemption”and in”need for change”.
He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of its only concern, which is “how to retain power at all cost”.

The APC chairman recalled the situation with Ekiti House impeachment.
“Just this morning, seven members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, met and purportedly impeached the Speaker of a twenty six member House of Assembly. This is the kind of lawlessness that is leading us into the multitude of problems that we have in this country today, and it is due to the lack of payment of any form of reasonable attention to the true priorities of this country.”

It would be recalled that Chibok town made a tragic appearance in the news in April, when nearly 300 girls were abducted from the local school.

October 17 the government was believed to have concluded a ceasefire agreement with the sect, however the group leader Abubakar Shekau claimed in the next videos that such a deal never existed at all.

As Boko Haram continued their bloody raids across Nigeria’s North-East, they seized the troubled town last Thursday night.
