Enyeama Explains Penalty Save Against Congo

Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has explained how he was able to save a penalty that could have handed the Red Devils of Congo a morale-boosting equalizer in the 2015.

It would be recalled that the former Enyimba goalie became the hero for Nigeria after he saved a penalty that denied the Congolese equalizer after Ike Uche had converted from the spot for the Eagles.

Nigeria went on to win 2-0 courtesy a second goal by China based Aaron Samuel .
In an interview granted to ColinUdoh.com, Enyeama said that he sussed out which way Congo forward Bifouma Koulossa would send his kick from the first time the two teams met in Calabar.

It would be recalled that on that occasion, Koulossa beat Austin Ejide by hitting the ball to the goalkeeper’s right corner.

Enyeama says he studied the penalty kick before the return leg in Congo.
“When a player is under pressure like that, with their team a goal down, the crowd behind them and needing to score, he tends to go for his comfort zone, which is his best spot.

“I looked at the penalty he scored in the first game, and I saw where he put it. So I went that same way because I was sure he would not change, because he was under pressure. And he did not.”
