APC Says They Have Not Chosen A Candidate For Governor Of Lagos

It was denied by APC that Akinwunmi Ambode, the former Accountant General of Lagos State had been chosen as candidate for 2015 governor elections by Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress this Tuesday.

APC’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, Joe Igbokwe, claimed in a telephone interview to Punch, that the fact that Oba of Lagos endorsed Ambode as the next governor for Lagos State did not mean that the APC picked him as candidate.

Igbokwe said that the party has not chosen a candidate yet for the elections of the governor. Private opinion of Oba of Lagos according to the secretary did not state the opinion of the party.

APC also issued a statement on Tuesday, in which it condemned the PDP for their threats towards Oba Akiolu for endorsing Ambode for governorship. They also claimed that all the allegations that Oba of Lagos aiming to influence the elections were irresponsible.

APC claims that the statements from PDP were due to the frustration of the latter over the fact that Oba rejected its multi-million dollar bribe that the PDP had been offering to the traditional rulers over Nigeria.

Moreover, the statement of APC claimed that PDP had threatened to burn down palace of Oba of Lagos and that was the threat to all the loving people in Lagos. However, when the correspondents of Punch contacted the representatives of PDP, Taofik Gani – the Publicity Secretary, he denied any threats towards the palace of Oba of Lagos, still said that they would make sure that any palace that might be used to rig the 2015 elections would be made inhabitable.

The statement also said the following: “It is understandable that the Lagos PDP has made itself a tale bearer that invests in speculating and circulating rumours and gossips, trading lies and innuendos over who gets what ticket and who backs who in Lagos APC, we dare say their attempt to pre-empt whoever emerges as APC candidate instead of working to present a credible candidate for their party, is downright silly and flows from the same lack of seriousness that has been the hallmark of Lagos PDP.”
