But more than ever, he has come to represent the face of the last men standing. Will he pass the test?
News flies. And at light speed too. This time Olamide made the headline. There were reports about the YBNL rapper expecting a second child. A love child. Olamide was unhappy. He spoke to the media. He did not just rubbish the reports, he set the records straight. Hear: “At my age I am not too young to have my own child but none yet”. He was not done. “The baby will come when the time is ripe”. Sigh of relief.
*Ice prince with his son and Wizkids son
Don’t get it twisted. No. Children are such precious gifts. But not child bearing out of wedlock! With the luxury lifestyle and fame of our celebrities, they seem to have redefined what was generally frowned at. Whatever they’ve copied from the West and even early industry pioneers, they seem to have perfected. Such genius! What is however worrisome is that the younger ones look up to these celebrities as role models.
Today, the industry is replete with love children. With our male artiste churning out more Baby Mamas than hits! From our most celebrated artistes to a newbie, the story goes. One Baby Mama after one hit!
From Tuface’s duo: Sumbo Ajala and Pero Adeniyi to Terry G’s Mimi Omoregbe, Timaya’s Babara, May D’s Adebola Olowoporoku, Ice Prince’s Bimbo Babatunde, Jesse Jag’s Ngohide Ruby, 9ice’s Victoria Olubukola, Wizkid’s Sola Ogudugu…The list goes.
What is conflicting is that some of these Baby Mamas are not in the rung ladder of the Nigerian Society. You would have easily fingered that. But it is arguably not so. Yet, none has given the slightest hint of being coerced. It was mutually consented.
Not that our female celebrities are left out anyway. But theirs is even more nauseating. Having babies and keeping their fathers identity can only mean one thing: moral bankruptcy!
Olamide remains a vocal act in the industry, but it will be standing truth on its head if it turns out another Ice Prince or Wizkid case.
If baby mama is trending, is it not because someone was a willing tool? Where is the pride of our ladies?
