Keshi Pardons Ike Uche, Enyeama For Arriving Camp Late

The duo of  Villareal of Spain striker, and Lille of France goalkeeper,  have been told by coach Stephen Keshi that they will not face any punishment for ahead of Saturday’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier against Congo in Pointe-Noire.

Supersport reports that both players missed Eagles’ at the FIFA goal project in Abuja on Monday after they arrived camp late from their bases in Europe.
This is contrary to Keshi’s rigid stance on team discipline.

The former Togo and Mali coach had dropped Emmanuel Emenike in the qualifier against Congo on 6 September in Calabar after the Fernabahce striker reported late to camp.

It was gathered that Uche and Enyeama had told Keshi that they had flights issues to connect Nigeria from their bases in Europe, a reason, reports say, Keshi accepted.
Speaking on the arrival of the players to camp, media officer of the Super Eagles, Ben Alaiya revealed that the players were warmly received by their team-mates and coaches and will now train with the rest of the squad on Wednesday.

“The players technically did not report late to camp. They only missed out on the team’s first training session because they had issues with their flights and did not come in at the planned time.

“Coach (Stephen) Keshi was duly informed about everything and there is no problem,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports from the team’s camp informed that goalie Enyeama will captain Nigeria on Saturday if he’s selected ahead of the two other goal keepers called up, Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim.

For Uche, he faces stiff competition to start on Saturday ahead of Fenarbahce goal poacher, Emenike.
The 30-year-old Uche last played for Nigeria on 10 February, 2013 when the Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 to win the 2013 AFCON title in South Africa.

He was substituted in the 54th minute with CSKA Moscow winger, Ahmed Musa taking his place.
The Eagles are expected to jet out of the country 8pm Thursday to Congo.

The Nigerian team, who are the defending champions of AFCON, face an uphill task if they are to qualify for next year’s AFCON as they have only 4 points out of a possible 12.
