It was disclosed by the Commissioner of the Nigerian Police Force in
charge of the Western Ports Command, Mrs. Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison,
African Spotlight reports.
Ibifuro-Harrison stated during the inauguration of the new executives of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Apapa, Lagos, that according to the intelligence provided 3 months ago, Boko Haram allegedly plot to bomb Lagos and target the seaports.
Speaking through the Assistant Commissioner in charge of administration, Salem Machree, the official warned about the threat.
“We are not taking the threat lightly at all and we encourage all stakeholders who visit the port to keep their eyes and ears open in case of the activity of the sect.”
According to her, police had taken measures and attracted a lot of security to protect Lagos and the port environment in particular.
The police will keep vigilant to prevent any possible attack on the ports, the commissioner said.
It would be recalled that a twin explosion rocked Folawiyo Energy Depot along Creek Road, Apapa on June 25, claiming at least 4 lives.
In July, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile the insurgents continue with deadly attacks across the towns in the North-East of the country. They not only murder the innocent, but also seize new territories, raid banks and steal supplies.
End of November the Central Mosque of Kano was hit by an explosion, which killed hundreds of people and left many seriously injured.
The Nigerian police and security have enhanced counter-terrorism measures to prevent more tragedies. After the Kano bombing two people were arrested in separate raids as the suspects allegedly plotted to carry out explosions in school and hospital.
